Breeding Info

Here at Sterling Curlies we offer live cover and shipped semen. Not many breeders in this area offer their stallions via shipped semen, so we needed to be become equipped and educated to collect and prepare semen ourselves. It was not practical to have to rely on a vet to come and collect Silver. Mares ovulations can be unpredictable and little notice needed if you can collect on farm.

Our local vet was able to have us included in a program offered by the University PEI/Atlantic Veterinary College. The professors and students came to the farm and Silver was collected and his semen processed. Then taken back to the college for analysis. His numbers were all well above average, so we got equipped to do the procedure ourselves.  The following year we took a referesher course from a reproduction specialist at another breeding farm in the area and also learned to perform Artifical Insemination on mares.

Silver’s first AI foal was born in 2004 in Baltimore, MD and he has had others as far away as Nevada, which ironically is where Curlies originated.
